A Conservative Approach to Ear Infections with Chiropractic

Five out of six children will have at least one ear infection by their third birthday. In fact, ear infections are the most common reason parents bring their child to a medical doctor. Often times antibiotics are prescribed even when the research shows antibiotics are not effective in treating ear infections. The reason antibiotics are not effective is, the majority of ear infections are caused by viruses and not bacteria. Therefore antibiotics are not helping and can lead to the growth drug-resistant bacteria while killing the good bacteria found in the gut. While ear infections are very common in children, they are not normal. Find out why a conservative approach to ear infection make the most sense and is a safer choice.

The Nervous System’s Role
When treating ear infections it important to look at the function of the nervous system first. Our nervous system controls every single function in our body and must be taken care of in order for us to be healthy. The nervous system controls the immune system and if the nervous system can’t properly communicate to the immune system it makes it much harder to fight off invaders and much easier to get sick. The nervous system also controls the function of the inner ear and without proper nervous system communication the eustachian tube doesn’t get the message to drain like it should.

The Chiropractor’s Role
A chiropractor performs gentle adjustments to remove any “blockages” of communication in the nervous system. These “blockages” or what chiropractors call subluxations in the spine can be a result of the birthing process or poor fetal position in the womb. This is why its so important to have your baby checked for subluxation at an early age. Correcting the subluxation strengthens the body from the inside out helping it do what its meant to do.

What to Expect
Children who are experiencing ear infections often have stress and misalignment at the top of the spine right under the base of the skull. Adjustments to this area are very gentle and effective in restoring the communication between the nervous system and the inner ear. Adjustments also help take any stress off the structures surrounding the ear like the muscles of the neck and jaw. Many time symptoms improve after just one adjustment!
